In an ambitious bid to empower aspiring homeowners across the island, the National Housing Trust (NHT) is rolling out two major Home IT Expos aimed at demystifying the home-buying process and connecting citizens directly with financial institutions, property experts, and tailored housing solutions.
The first of these expos will take place at Harmony Beach Park in Montego Bay on Saturday, October 25, running from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., while the second event will follow at Emancipation Park in Kingston on November 2. Both events are free and open to the public.
According to Jywanza Hall, Senior Marketing Coordinator at the NHT, these expos are designed to equip first-time buyers with the tools, knowledge, and support necessary to transition from dreaming about a home to owning one.
“Attendees will gain access to essential information regarding financing options, eligibility criteria and practical advice to navigate the home-buying process. We are encouraging first-time home buyers to come prepared with their Tax Registration Number (TRN), National Insurance Scheme (NIS) card and an ID to explore their eligibility and options,” Mr. Hall stated.
The expos will feature interactive booths and information sessions with NHT mortgage partners including the National Commercial Bank, Scotiabank, First Global Bank, and First Heritage Co-operative Credit Union. These stakeholders will be on hand to provide one-on-one guidance on mortgage offerings, interest rates, repayment structures, and long-term affordability planning.
Participants will also have a unique opportunity to assess their individual borrowing potential and get pre-qualified on-site, allowing them to take immediate, informed steps toward purchasing a home.
“It is essential for attendees to know what they can afford so that they can focus their search within their budget and make the best choices for their future,” Mr. Hall emphasised.
As the housing market continues to evolve amid economic shifts, these expos represent a timely initiative to address barriers to ownership—especially for younger Jamaicans, new families, and low-to-middle income earners seeking a foothold in the property market.
Hall noted that these expos are only the beginning. The NHT intends to expand the programme to reach communities beyond Kingston and Montego Bay in the coming months.
“Homeownership is an intentional venture, and we are here to guide you every step of the way,” he remarked. “We want persons to come with an open mind and a readiness to learn.”
With a strong emphasis on accessibility and education, the NHT is setting a proactive tone in tackling Jamaica’s housing challenges—moving from policy to practice in meaningful ways.
Jamaicans interested in attending or learning more about these events are encouraged to visit the official NHT website at www.nht.gov.jm.
