Claremont, a town in Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica, was originally called “Finger Post” before being renamed after “Clermont House,” the first home built there. At 458 meters (1,503 feet) above sea level, it was historically home to wealthy landed gentry, reflected in its architecture. Shops along Claremont High Street showcase fine details, and the town clock, gifted in 1915 by Tom Dobson Esq. of Carton Pen, is a landmark. The town also features Saint Matthew’s Anglican Church, a key religious site on Nine Mile Road.

Claremont has several educational institutions, including Ferncourt High School, established in 1938, with around 1,500 students. Another is Beechamville Vocational Training Centre (HEART), part of the Northeast TVET Institute in the Grove district. Notable resident Seymour St. Edward “Foggy” Mullings (1931–2013) served as Deputy Prime Minister of Jamaica. Before politics, he was a jazz pianist and organist at the Anglican Church. With its history, architecture, and schools, Claremont remains a distinctive part of Saint Ann Parish.
