Irish Town is a charming mountain village located in the cool hills of the Blue Mountains, just under 10 km from Kingston in Saint Andrew Parish, Jamaica. Nestled at approximately 800 meters (2,600 feet) above sea level, it offers a serene retreat from city life with its misty peaks, clean air, and lush greenery. The area is especially known for its scenic beauty, cool climate, and breathtaking panoramic views. Irish Town’s name reflects its colonial past, where Irish indentured servants and prisoners were brought to Jamaica in the 17th century following British conquest. Many of these settlers established themselves in this mountainous region, leaving a cultural imprint still felt today. The village is also part of Jamaica’s famous Blue Mountain coffee belt, home to renowned plantations such as Craighton Estate, where visitors can explore the coffee-making process and sample some of the world’s best brews.

Aside from coffee, Irish Town boasts luxury and rustic attractions including the iconic Strawberry Hill resort, known for its colonial-style cottages and sweeping views of Kingston and beyond. Visitors often enjoy dining at EITS Café, a farm-to-table gem, or savoring authentic Jamaican fare at Crystal Edge Restaurant. Nature lovers are drawn to the area’s hiking trails, birdwatching spots, and nearby Holywell Park, which offers deeper immersion into the Blue Mountain ecosystem. Whether it’s for a relaxing getaway, a culinary journey, or an encounter with Jamaica’s natural and colonial history, Irish Town combines cultural richness, historical depth, and tranquil beauty in one unforgettable highland destination.
