    Carmel

Carmel is a rural area located in the parish of Westmoreland on Jamaica’s south-western coast, near the town of Savanna-la-Mar, the parish capital. The landscape is predominantly agricultural, with crops such as sugarcane, bananas, and vegetables being cultivated. While Carmel itself is not a major tourist destination, its proximity to coastal resorts in the parish, especially in places like Negril, contributes to its economic activities. The area is rich in cultural heritage, with local traditions centered around music, food, and arts. Seafood is a key element of the local cuisine, and various cultural events throughout the year highlight the traditions of the region.

Westmoreland’s economy is heavily influenced by agriculture, but tourism is also an important sector. While Carmel may not see as much tourism as the more popular coastal areas, its location within the parish makes it part of the broader economic framework. Infrastructure in Carmel is basic, as it is a rural community, but it benefits from its proximity to Savanna-la-Mar, where residents can access schools, healthcare, and commercial services. However, like many rural areas in Jamaica, it may face challenges in areas such as road conditions and reliable access to utilities. Public transportation may be limited, but major roads connecting to Negril and Montego Bay offer better accessibility to more developed areas.

In terms of real estate, Westmoreland, including Carmel, holds potential for development due to its proximity to agricultural lands and tourist hubs. While Carmel is not known for large-scale residential developments, nearby areas like Negril and Savanna-la-Mar have seen growth in tourism-related real estate projects. The area is home to several schools, but higher education may require travel to larger towns or cities. Overall, Carmel remains a quieter, rural community that benefits from its location within the diverse and developing Westmoreland parish.
