In Jamaica, the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) is a government-administered social security program that provides financial protection to workers and their families against various risks, such as old age, disability, death, and unemployment. Established under the National Insurance Act, the NIS requires all employed and self-employed individuals between the ages of 18 and 70 to contribute a portion of their income to the scheme.
