Qualification Requirements:
To kickstart your career as a real estate salesman, you need to fulfill certain qualification criteria. The following options are available for qualification:
- Successful completion of the 108-hour Pre-licensing Salesman's Course at the Real Estate Training Institute.
- Successful completion of the 108-hour Pre-licensing Salesman's Part-time Course at the Real Estate Training Institute.
Registration Requirements:
Once you've met the qualification criteria, the next step is to submit the necessary documents and information to the Real Estate Board (REB). Here's a comprehensive list of registration requirements:
- Application form.
- Application Fee of J$9,000.00 (Effective April 01, 2019).
- Three letters of reference from specific professionals, excluding the Justice of the Peace validating your address.
- Justice of the Peace (JP)
- Minister of Religion
- Medical Practitioner
- Senior Teacher or Principal
- Civil Servant ranked Senior Management Group and above
- Senior Police Officer (rank above Sergeant)
- Bank Manager
- Attorney-at-law
- Active Real Estate Dealer (except the dealer to whom the salesman is employed)
- Copy of TRN (Taxpayer Registration Number).
- Police Report (not older than one year).
- Bankruptcy Clearance Report receipt (not older than 6 months).
- Institution: The Supervisor of Insolvency and Government Trustee, 52-60 Grenada Crescent, Kingston 5. Fee: J$3,000.00.
- Completed Fit and Proper Questionnaire Form.
- Two passport size photographs certified by an Attorney-at-law, Pastor, or Justice of the Peace (for individuals only).
- Proof of address (Utility Bills e.g., water, electricity, phone, or a letter from a JP confirming address).
- Employment letter by the dealer to which he/she will be employed and licensed.
Requirements for Registration (for individuals holding Overseas License):
If you're holding an overseas license, additional steps are involved:
- Certified copy of a current practicing salesman's license (acceptable to the Board).
- Evidence of passing the Aspects of Jamaican Land Law examination at the Real Estate Training Institute.
- Evidence of participation in 20 hours of the 108-hour Pre-licensing Salesman's Course at the Real Estate Training Institute.
- Work Permit for non-Jamaicans and non-Caricom nationals through the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
Additional Information:
- Application Fee for overseas applicants is J$12,000.00.
- Applicants residing overseas must submit Bankruptcy and Police Clearances from both the current country of residence and Jamaica.
- A Licence fee of J$22,000.00 is required upon approval.
