In 2022 alone, over 1,500 teachers left their positions in just the first nine months, a number that has significantly impacted our education system. Although the situation improved slightly in the following year, with around 427 teachers resigning by mid-August, the trend remains concerning and indicative of a larger issue at hand.
One of the primary factors driving this mass exodus is the lack of affordability in homeownership, compounded by financial constraints that stem from their pay packets. Teachers, who play a crucial role in shaping our country's future, deserve better. They dedicate their lives to nurturing and educating our children, yet many are left struggling to make ends meet and find a stable place to call home.
It’s time we come together to advocate for change. Introducing subsidized housing plans specifically for our teachers could be a vital step in addressing this issue. Such initiatives would not only help to deter the current trend of mass resignations but also significantly uplift the overall standard of living for our educators.
