Our Commitment
Jamaica Homes News is committed to accurate, fair and responsible journalism.
We recognise that, despite reasonable editorial processes, errors can occur. News develops, information changes, official statements are revised and new evidence may emerge after publication. In addition, while we make extensive use of artificial intelligence to assist our editorial workflow, AI systems are not infallible and may contribute to inaccuracies or omissions despite human review.
When a genuine error is identified, we are committed to reviewing it promptly and taking appropriate action where necessary.
Reporting an Error
If you believe an article contains:
- a factual error;
- inaccurate information;
- misleading wording;
- incorrect quotations;
- outdated information;
- an omission of significant fact; or
- any other material issue,
please contact us using the contact details published on our Contact page.
To assist our review, please include where possible:
- the article title or URL;
- the specific information you believe is incorrect;
- the reason you believe it is incorrect;
- any supporting evidence or reliable sources.
Our Review Process
When a correction request is received, we will normally:
- review the information provided;
- consider the evidence available;
- verify facts using appropriate sources where reasonably possible;
- determine whether a correction or other editorial action is justified.
We may contact the person submitting the request if further information is required.
Types of Editorial Action
Depending on the circumstances, Jamaica Homes News may take one or more of the following actions.
Correction
Where a material factual error has been identified, the article may be corrected.
Where appropriate, we may indicate that a correction has been made.
Clarification
If wording could reasonably be misunderstood but is not factually incorrect, we may clarify the language without materially changing the substance of the article.
Update
News stories frequently develop after publication.
Articles may be updated to include:
- official statements;
- additional information;
- responses from relevant parties;
- subsequent developments;
- further context.
Updates are a normal part of responsible journalism and do not necessarily indicate that the original article was inaccurate.
Editor’s Note
In some circumstances, we may add an Editor’s Note to explain significant changes, important context or developments that affect the original publication.
Retraction
In exceptional circumstances, where an article is found to be fundamentally inaccurate, unlawful or otherwise unsuitable to remain published, we may remove or retract it.
Retractions are expected to be rare and will generally be reserved for significant issues.
Right of Reply
Where appropriate, individuals, businesses or organisations who are the subject of material criticism or allegations may request that their response be considered for publication.
Publication of a response remains an editorial decision and will depend upon factors including relevance, accuracy, public interest and available evidence.
AI-Assisted Content
Jamaica Homes News makes extensive use of artificial intelligence within its editorial workflow.
Although AI-assisted content is reviewed before publication where reasonably practicable, AI systems can produce errors, omissions, outdated information or inaccurate interpretations.
Readers are encouraged to notify us of any suspected inaccuracies so they can be reviewed.
Timing
We aim to review correction requests as promptly as reasonably practicable.
The time required will depend upon:
- the complexity of the issue;
- availability of evidence;
- the need for further verification;
- the nature of the publication.
Not every request will result in a correction.
Editorial Discretion
Editorial decisions regarding corrections, updates, clarifications, Editor’s Notes and retractions remain entirely at the discretion of Jamaica Homes News.
We reserve the right to determine the appropriate form of editorial action based upon the circumstances of each case.
Publication of Corrections
Where appropriate, corrections may be made directly within an article, accompanied by a correction notice, Editor’s Note or other indication that the content has been amended.
Minor typographical errors, grammatical corrections, formatting changes and similar non-material amendments may be made without notice.
No Admission of Liability
The publication of a correction, clarification, update, Editor’s Note or retraction should not be interpreted as an admission of negligence, fault or legal liability.
Such actions form part of our ongoing commitment to responsible journalism and editorial accuracy.
Our Editorial Philosophy
We believe responsible journalism includes a willingness to acknowledge and correct genuine mistakes.
We are committed to continually improving the quality, accuracy and integrity of our reporting while recognising that journalism is an evolving process and that reasonable errors may occasionally occur.
