A two-story container module home, nestled in the vibrant city of Kingston, Jamaica, exudes minimalist luxury with an open, airy design. The ground floor's expansive living area, with floor-to-ceiling glass panels, invites an abundance of natural light, while the upper floor's protruding windows, featuring geometric shapes, and wrap-around balcony, offer breathtaking views of the lush surroundings. The façade's dynamic interplay of glass and textured metal adds a touch of chic, contemporary sophistication. In the style of architects like Olson Kundig, with their emphasis on modern, eco-friendly design, and the photographic sensibilities of Andreas Gursky, capturing the essence of contemporary life

A compact, two-storey dwelling assembled from repurposed steel shipping containers and organised around a sheltered garden court. The massing is deliberately orthogonal, with stacked volumes offset to create deep overhangs and shaded outdoor rooms. Extensive glazing is recessed within the structural frame to manage heat gain while maintaining visual continuity between inside and out. Warm timber linings soften the industrial shell and provide climatic balance against the metal envelope. The upper level projects outward to form a covered veranda, a common Caribbean device reinterpreted in a modern idiom. Circulation is simple and legible, reinforcing spatial efficiency within a tight footprint. The design is explicitly conceptual, exploring how modular construction can be adapted to tropical residential living.

    Year: 2025
    Lead Designer: Jamaica Homes
    Type: Conceptual Residential Architecture
Main Architectural Elements: repurposed shipping containers · cantilevered upper volume · deep roof overhangs · recessed glazing · timber interior lining

Crucial Location Factors: The design assumes reliable road access and proximity to basic services, making it suitable for peri-urban or emerging residential zones. Orientation prioritises prevailing breezes and controlled western sun exposure to reduce cooling loads.
    Category: Residential
    Best Use (Occupancy Classification): Homes
    Location: Concept Site, Jamaica
Energy Efficiency: Passive ventilation, solar shading, and reduced embodied energy through container reuse are integral to the concept.
Design fitting function (build-to-suit): The modular layout allows adaptation for single-family living, short-term rental, or incremental expansion as needs evolve.

A restrained study in how industrial systems can be recalibrated for domestic life in the tropics.
