How Do I Replace My Lost TRN Card or Apply for One?

If you’ve lost your TRN card, no worries! Your TRN (Taxpayer Registration Number) stays the same even if your card is missing. Here’s how to get a new one or apply if you’re overseas:

What’s a TRN?

Your TRN is a special number you need to do business in Jamaica. It’s used for taxes, banking, and other important things. The card shows your TRN, but the number is also on your driver’s license (if you have one).

How to Replace Your TRN Card (or Apply for a New One):

1. If You’re in Jamaica:

  • Get the Application Form:
    • Download the form online from the TAJ (Tax Administration Jamaica) website or pick one up at a tax office.
  • Fill Out the Form:
    • Add your details (like your name, address, and TRN number).
  • Prepare Supporting Documents:
    • You’ll need one of these combinations:
      • Driver’s license and passport OR
      • Birth certificate and two passport-sized photos OR
      • Marriage certificate (if your name has changed) OR
      • School ID or voter’s ID
  • Drop It Off:
    • Take it to the tax office, or see if it can be sent by courier.
  • Check About Mailing It:
    • Call the tax office to ask if you can send your form and documents by mail.

2. If You’re Overseas:

  • Prepare the Same Documents:
    • If you don’t have originals, get notarized copies of your ID, like your passport or driver’s license.
  • Contact TAJ:
    • Reach out to the Tax Office in Jamaica for guidance on how to submit your application. They might help you mail it in or send it via courier.
  • Wait for Verification:
    • Once they verify your documents, they’ll issue a new TRN card and let you know how to collect it or send it to you.

What Does a TRN Do?

Your TRN is like your key to doing financial transactions in Jamaica. It replaced old systems like the Business Enterprise Number (BENO) and became a must-have from November 2001.

I misplaced my TRN and want a replacement. Can I apply for it from the UK? Will you mail it to my home address? Thanks

    • Yes, you can apply for a TRN replacement from the UK. Just contact the nearest Jamaican High Commission or Consulate. They’ll guide you through the process, and yes—they can mail it to your home address once it’s ready.
