Haddersfield, a small village in the parish of St. Mary, Jamaica, is known for its historical significance and tranquil surroundings. Located approximately 10 kilometers east of Ocho Rios, the village sits near the mouth of the Rio Nuevo River at an elevation of 164 meters above sea level. The name “Haddersfield” is believed to have originated from the British 33rd Regiment of Foot, stationed in Jamaica between 1822 and 1832. Many of the soldiers, originally from West Yorkshire, England, chose to remain in Jamaica after their service, marrying local women and establishing families. This historical connection is thought to have led to the village being named after the British town of Huddersfield. The village today holds both historical and natural charm, making it an appealing area for potential development. Its proximity to Ocho Rios, a popular tourist destination, enhances its value for real estate investment. With a mix of rich history, scenic landscapes, and growing interest from investors, Haddersfield presents an emerging opportunity for residential, commercial, and heritage-based projects in Jamaica’s expanding real estate market.
