The COVID-19 pandemic created specific conditions that were exploited in Jamaica’s property market. Illegal evictions of tenants who could not pay rent, fraudulent government relief claims, and the targeting of financially distressed homeowners by opportunistic buyers were among the fraud patterns recorded during the pandemic period. Emergency provisions introduced by the government were also misrepresented to tenants and landlords alike.
