KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States (US) dollar on Tuesday, June 16, ended trading at $158.97, down 22 cents, according to the Bank of Jamaica’s daily foreign exchange trading summary.
The Canadian dollar closed the day at $114.19, down from $114.33, while the British pound ended at $213.39, slightly lower than its previous close of $213.51.
All three major currencies therefore weakened against the Jamaican dollar during the session, giving the local unit a modest lift across the board.

What it means for property buyers and the diaspora
Daily movements of a few cents rarely change a household budget on their own, but they add up for anyone converting large sums. Diaspora buyers sending deposits or closing costs from the United States, Canada or the United Kingdom receive slightly fewer Jamaican dollars on days like this, while local importers of building materials priced in US dollars benefit marginally.
