KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States (US) dollar on Friday, June 21, ended trading at $156.59, down three cents, according to the Bank of Jamaica’s daily foreign exchange trading summary.
The Canadian dollar closed at $115.14, up from $114.94, while the British pound ended at $196.48, compared with $199.29 at the previous close.
The Jamaican dollar edged up against the US dollar and gained more strongly against the pound sterling, while losing some ground to the Canadian dollar.

What it means for property buyers and the diaspora
With the US rate barely moving, buyers budgeting in US dollars saw little change on the day. UK-based members of the diaspora, however, would have received noticeably fewer Jamaican dollars per pound for deposits or remittances, while Canadian senders came out slightly ahead. Anyone planning a large transfer for a purchase or renovation may want to compare rates across several days. Movements of this kind are a reminder to confirm the exchange rate your bank or remittance provider will apply before sending.
