KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States (US) dollar on Monday, October 14, ended trading at $159.48, up 32 cents, according to the Bank of Jamaica’s daily foreign exchange trading summary.
The Canadian dollar closed at $113.79, down from $116.55, while the British pound sterling ended at $207.39, down from $208.25.
The Jamaican dollar lost ground to the US dollar but gained against the pound and, most notably, the Canadian dollar.

What it means for property buyers and the diaspora
The Canadian dollar’s drop of more than $2.70 stands out. A Jamaican in Canada sending CAD 5,000 towards a property deposit would have received roughly J$13,800 less than at the previous close. US-based senders fared better as the greenback firmed, while local purchasers of imported materials and appliances priced in US dollars faced a slightly higher Jamaican-dollar cost.
