KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States (US) dollar on Monday, January 6, ended trading at $156.91, down two cents, according to the Bank of Jamaica’s daily foreign exchange trading summary.
The Canadian dollar closed at $109.17, down from $109.83, while the British pound sterling ended at $195.64, up from $195.36.
It was a mixed start to the week for the Jamaican dollar, which edged up against the US and Canadian dollars but slipped against the pound.

What it means for property buyers and the diaspora
Small daily moves like these rarely change a purchase decision on their own, but they add up over the months it takes to save a deposit or complete a build. Diaspora buyers in Canada saw slightly less value from each transfer, while UK senders got a little more. Anyone paying US-dollar rent or a US-dollar-denominated mortgage in Jamaica saw practically no change in their local-currency bill.
