Port Antonio, Portland, 16 July 2026
Construction of the Boundbrook Urban Centre in Port Antonio has passed the halfway mark, with the $4.2 billion mixed-use development now 58 per cent complete and on course to open in February 2027.
Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness visited the site on 3 July to inspect progress. With a little more than two fifths of the work still to be done, the coming months will show whether the February 2027 opening date holds.

A one-stop centre for Portland
The project is being delivered by the Factories Corporation of Jamaica (FCJ) under a public-private partnership. It will comprise five buildings offering roughly 148,000 square feet of space, with $2.7 billion of the overall budget allocated to construction.
When finished, the complex will bring government services together with shops, food and beverage outlets, and business and professional offices in one location. It is part of a wider Government strategy of building modern urban centres that combine public services with commercial activity.
The development is expected to create between 2,000 and 3,000 jobs across its construction and operating phases.
Linked to the Port Antonio Bypass
Dr Holness described the project as part of a push to replace ageing infrastructure across the island. He said the urban centre, together with the Port Antonio Bypass being built nearby, will take traffic out of the town and make it work better.
Space freed up in the town centre could then attract new investment, he suggested.
What it means for property in Portland
Large public projects often reshape local property markets. A modern commercial hub offering government services, retail and office space could raise demand for business premises and housing in and around Port Antonio, particularly if the promised jobs materialise. Combined with the bypass, reduced congestion in the town could make older commercial buildings more attractive for redevelopment. Landowners, investors and renters in the area will want to watch how the centre and the bypass progress through to 2027.
