Kingston, Jamaica, 30 July 2026
National Water Commission (NWC) customers supplied from the Mona Dam will have water only during the day from 3 August, as drought conditions continue to squeeze supply to parts of the Corporate Area.
Under the restrictions, customers can expect supply generally between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm each day. Communities affected include Liguanea, Mountain View, Cross Roads, Vineyard Town and sections of New Kingston.
Reservoir Levels
The Mona Dam was at 62 per cent of capacity. That is higher than the 39.3 per cent recorded on the same date in 2025, but well below the 81.8 per cent seen in 2024. The Hermitage Dam stood at 47.4 per cent, compared with 45 per cent a year earlier and 98 per cent in 2024.
Across the island, 73 NWC systems have been affected by the drought.
Restrictions on the Constant Spring network had already begun on 3 July, meaning more Corporate Area households now face scheduled supply.
Trucking and Private Supply
The NWC said it has 18 of its own trucks and 52 private trucks available to deliver water where needed. It is also buying water from private suppliers to help serve Portmore in St Catherine.
Delano Williams, the NWC’s acting corporate public relations manager, confirmed the daily supply window for customers served by the Mona system.
What It Means for Households
For families, the practical advice is to store water during supply hours and use it carefully overnight. Homes with tanks will cope far better than those relying directly on mains pressure.
For homeowners and landlords, the restrictions are another reminder that storage is now a basic feature rather than an optional extra. A tank, pump and proper guttering for rainwater harvesting can make a real difference to daily life during dry spells, and buyers viewing property in the Corporate Area will increasingly ask what storage a house already has.
Tenants should check with landlords how the building’s supply is managed, particularly in apartment complexes where a shared tank may serve many units.
With several systems already under pressure and reservoir levels well below 2024, households across Kingston and St Andrew should treat conservation as a daily habit until supply returns to normal.
