KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States (US) dollar on Tuesday, August 4, ended trading at $159.60, up 56 cents, according to the Bank of Jamaica’s daily foreign exchange trading summary.
The Canadian dollar ended at $112.33, down from $114.53, while the British pound slipped to $213.32 from $213.55.
The Jamaican dollar lost ground to the US dollar but advanced against the Canadian dollar by more than $2 and edged up against sterling, leaving a mixed result for the day.

What it means for property buyers and the diaspora
US-based Jamaicans putting money toward a lot, a starter home or a family house renovation got a better conversion on this day. For those in Canada the story was reversed, and a transfer of the same size would have covered less of a deposit or stamp duty bill. Builders buying US-priced inputs such as rebar and PVC pipe face a slightly higher local cost.
