For years, Bruno Mars was dogged by the wonderfully theatrical rumour that he owed a Las Vegas casino $40 million. The reality appears rather less dramatic, and considerably more lucrative.
The 16-time Grammy winner, 40, has an estimated net worth of about $175 million, supported by record sales, touring, a highly profitable Las Vegas residency and a carefully accumulated property portfolio.
At its centre is a Mediterranean-style estate in Studio City, Los Angeles, bought in 2014 for $6.5 million. Spread across two acres, the 9,000-square-foot home includes seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, an infinity pool, saunas and a wine cellar.
Mars has also traded homes in Los Angeles and Honolulu, sometimes profitably, sometimes not.
It is an extraordinary distance from childhood hardship in Hawaii and a $960-a-month Los Angeles apartment.
Apparently, “24K Magic” was not merely a song title.
