KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States (US) dollar on Monday, September 28, ended trading at $159.49, up slightly from Friday’s close of $159.45, according to the Bank of Jamaica’s daily foreign exchange trading summary.
The Canadian dollar finished the session at $113.14, down from its previous close of $113.33, while the British pound climbed to $212.94 from $211.21.
The picture for the Jamaican dollar was therefore mixed: it gave up a little ground to the US dollar and a larger amount to sterling, but gained modestly against the Canadian currency.

What it means for property buyers and the diaspora
For Jamaicans in the United Kingdom, a stronger pound means each transfer home for a deposit, legal fees or a construction draw stretches a bit further. Canadian-based buyers saw the opposite effect on the day, while the small move in the US dollar leaves the cost of imported steel, cement additives and fixtures priced in US dollars largely unchanged for now.
