KINGSTON, Jamaica — A broad trough is expected to bring periods of showers and thunderstorms to Jamaica from Friday, October 23, through Sunday, October 25, with the heaviest activity potentially occurring over the weekend.
The Meteorological Service of Jamaica has indicated that most parishes could experience unsettled conditions, particularly central and eastern areas. Marine interests have also been advised to exercise caution where showers, thunderstorms and squalls affect coastal waters.
In its Atlantic Tropical Weather Discussion issued at 7:15 a.m. Jamaica time on Friday, the United States National Hurricane Center identified heavy rainfall in the northern Caribbean as a special feature. It said a plume of moisture could affect Jamaica and neighbouring islands over several days, with the heaviest rainfall expected on Saturday and Sunday and the potential for dangerous flash flooding.
The discussion is not itself a Jamaican flash flood watch or warning. Residents should monitor the Meteorological Service for any formal alert. People in low-lying or flood-prone areas should avoid crossing flooded roads, gullies or fords.
