KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica Public Service says thousands of customers in western Jamaica are scheduled to regain electricity by March 31 as restoration work continues in communities still affected by Hurricane Melissa.
The utility said the latest restoration list covers communities in St James, Westmoreland, St Elizabeth and Hanover, including some of the most remote and severely affected areas still awaiting supply.
JPS said fewer than 9,000 customers remained without electricity at the time of the update, with approximately 5,000 additional customers expected to be restored during the March phase.
The company said much of the remaining work involves pole installation in difficult rocky terrain and areas that are hard for specialised vehicles to access. Customers whose properties were damaged or flooded were advised to have a certified electrician inspect their premises before reconnection.
