KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States (US) dollar on Monday, April 20, ended trading at $158.91, down 22 cents, according to the Bank of Jamaica’s daily foreign exchange trading summary.
The Canadian dollar closed at $116.16, up from $116.04, while the British pound ended the session at $216.03, up from its previous close of $215.39.
The session was mixed for the Jamaican dollar, which strengthened noticeably against the greenback but slipped slightly against both the Canadian dollar and the pound.

What it means for property buyers and the diaspora
Landlords who collect rent in US dollars, particularly on short-stay and holiday properties, will find their receipts worth a fraction less in local terms after a day like this. Canadian and British investors paying Jamaican-dollar bills for maintenance or strata fees came out marginally ahead. Buyers financing a purchase from abroad may also want to compare the rates offered by their bank or remittance company, which can differ from the central bank’s reference figures.
