KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica Public Service says electricity has been restored to customers affected by the islandwide power outage that began shortly after 9:00 pm on Friday, June 5.
JPS said the final customers affected by the system-wide outage were re-energised at approximately 6:30 am on Saturday, June 6.
The utility said its Incident Command System remained active while teams monitored the electricity network for stability and continued investigations into the cause of the shutdown.
JPS later said an initial assessment linked the event to intense lightning activity affecting transmission infrastructure, while a more detailed investigation continued. Small pockets of unrelated outages were still being addressed separately.
