$75,600 in Unpaid Rent and a Writ of Possession: A Charlotte Church Loses Its Building

A Charlotte congregation has been forced out of its rented premises over unpaid rent. My Christian Daily reported that Kingdom City Church was evicted after failing to pay $75,600.

The church, led by Pastor Brian Carn, had been meeting at 3409 and 3412 Brookshire Boulevard in Charlotte, North Carolina. Its landlord, Green Acres, Inc., obtained a judgment on June 18, 2026. A judge signed a writ of possession on July 7, and the church ended worship at the location on July 14.

In a statement, the church said: “Effective July 14, 2026, we have concluded our time of worship at our Brookshire Boulevard location in Charlotte, North Carolina.” It attributed the dispute to facility maintenance problems that it said were the landlord’s responsibility and had not been resolved.

The eviction came months after Carn pleaded guilty in January 2026 to obstructing the IRS over more than $600,000 in unpaid taxes; he received a nine-month prison sentence. Kingdom City Church continues to run campuses in Charlotte, Jacksonville and Houston.

Many Jamaican congregations rent their worship space, from shop fronts and plazas to school halls and warehouses, and the Charlotte case shows how quickly a tenancy can end once rent falls into arrears. Whatever the merits of a repair complaint, unpaid rent can leave a tenant open to eviction, so disputes over repairs are best raised in writing and handled through the lease. Church boards signing commercial leases should read the repair clauses closely and budget for rent in lean months as well as good ones. Landlords who rent to churches, for their part, should keep proper records and follow the legal process, as Green Acres did here.
