Admiral Mountain Great House, located in St. Andrew, Jamaica, was once the residence of Admiral Peter Parker, head of the British fleet in the West Indies, in 1780. The property later served as the home for British Admirals stationed in Jamaica during the 18th and 19th centuries.
One of the most famous figures to stay at Admiral Mountain was Admiral Horatio Nelson, Britain’s celebrated naval hero. Nelson, stationed in Jamaica in 1780, is commemorated with a plaque at Fort Charles in Port Royal, marking his historical connection to the island.
Historical and Architectural Significance
The house, built in colonial style, offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. It is a prime example of plantation-era architecture and has been preserved as a national monument, representing Jamaica’s colonial military history.
Though privately owned, Admiral Mountain Great House remains a symbol of Jamaica’s connection to British naval history and figures like Horatio Nelson.
