Bethel Town is a settlement in Westmoreland, Jamaica, located at approximately 18.30°N latitude and 77.95°W longitude. As of the 2011 census, the population was 4,198, reflecting growth from 3,232 in 2001 and 2,768 in 1991. Historically, it began as a former slave village and was the site of political riots in 1938. Situated in Westmoreland Parish, Jamaica’s westernmost parish, it shares borders with Hanover to the north and Saint James and Saint Elizabeth to the east. The parish capital is Savanna-la-Mar, with other notable towns including Grange Hill, Negril, White House, and Bethel Town. The region is known for its fertile alluvial plains, making it ideal for sugarcane cultivation, and is supported by rivers such as the Cabarita, Roaring River, Great River, Negril, and New Savannah. Bethel Town falls within the Westmoreland Eastern constituency, serving as one of its electoral divisions. It has also gained attention through online platforms like Tripadvisor and Instagram, where visitors and locals share images and experiences of the town. Additionally, the Negril Great Morass, a significant wetland in the parish, is home to rich biodiversity and has been the focus of conservation efforts.
