Cambridge, St. James, is a historic and culturally rich town in Jamaica, located approximately 15 miles southeast of Montego Bay. As the main township of upper St. James and known as the “fruit-basket” of the parish, Cambridge plays a crucial role in the local agricultural economy, producing bananas, yams, breadfruit, mangoes, cocoa, and coffee. The town is nestled in the county of Cornwall, boasting picturesque landscapes and fertile lands. Its center, Wilmot Max Ramsay Square, serves as a historical landmark and community hub. The town’s close proximity to Montego Bay makes it accessible for commerce, education, and work while maintaining its rural charm. Cambridge has a well-established educational system, with students attending traditional high schools such as Cornwall College, Mount Alvernia, and Montego Bay High School. Local institutions include a Basic School, Infant School, Primary School, and Secondary High School, with plans for the Marco Brown Public Library to provide additional educational resources.

Religious diversity is a defining characteristic of Cambridge, with several places of worship contributing to the town’s strong community values. These include St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall, Seventh-day Adventist Church, New Testament Church of God, Christian Fellowship Church, The Gospel Chapel, Mt. Reece Methodist Church, and Shortwood Baptist Church. Beyond its spiritual and cultural significance, Cambridge presents promising real estate opportunities. Residential properties range from modest family homes to larger estates, while agricultural land remains in demand for farming ventures. As Montego Bay continues to expand, Cambridge holds potential for future real estate development, including vacation rentals and eco-tourism accommodations. Housing prices remain relatively affordable compared to Montego Bay, making it an attractive location for individuals and families seeking a tranquil countryside lifestyle.

With a well-connected road network, residents have convenient access to Montego Bay for work and business, while local amenities such as healthcare facilities, markets, and small businesses support daily life. Cambridge’s sense of community remains strong, blending traditional values with modern aspirations. Infrastructure improvements, such as enhanced public services and road conditions, could further elevate its appeal as a residential and investment destination. As the town grows, it retains its unique blend of historical richness, agricultural importance, and developmental potential, making it a compelling location within western Jamaica.
