Christ Church, located at 1 East Street in Morant Bay, St. Thomas, Jamaica, is an Anglican church with a rich history dating back to the 17th century. The first rector, known only as Mr. Nicholas, was appointed in 1666 to serve in Morant Bay. The original church, situated at Church Corner, fell into disrepair and was abandoned. Subsequently, a new brick church was constructed in 1865 at its current location.

The church is part of the Diocese of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands and maintains an active congregation. It hosts various community activities, including services and special events. For example, a special Women’s Day Service was held, reflecting the church’s commitment to community engagement.

The church’s cemetery contains historical monuments and plaques, commemorating individuals such as William Baillie, who spent 54 years in Jamaica and died on January 19, 1786, at the age of 74, and Jacobi Baillie, who died on October 3, 1785, at the age of 61. Another plaque, presented by Mr. and Mrs. R.K. Dewar of “Rozelle,” honors Mrs. Alice Eliza Lewin and their infant children: William Plummer (died November 25, 1912), Yvonne Alice (died January 9, 1915), and Joyce Cynthia (died December 31, 1915).

The church is also part of the St. Thomas Deanery, which includes other churches such as St. Boniface in White Hall, St. Matthias in Middleton, and St. Matthew’s in Wilmington.
