    Periodic Tenancy

Periodic Tenancy is a rental arrangement where a tenant occupies a property for a recurring period, such as month-to-month or week-to-week, without a fixed end date. This means the lease automatically renews at the end of each period until either the landlord or tenant decides to end it with proper notice, often 30 days. In Jamaica, periodic tenancies are common for both residential and commercial rentals, offering flexibility for tenants who may not want a long-term commitment and for landlords who prefer adaptable rental arrangements. This setup allows tenants to extend their stay as long as needed, while landlords can adjust rental terms more frequently if the market changes. Globally, periodic tenancies are popular for tenants who may need short-term rentals, like students, seasonal workers, or people in transition, as they offer the benefit of staying without signing a long-term lease. They are typically less formal than fixed-term leases, making them easier to arrange and often less costly to terminate. Periodic tenancies provide a flexible approach to rental agreements, balancing the needs of tenants seeking short-term living arrangements and landlords looking for adaptable leasing options.
