KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States (US) dollar on Tuesday, September 10, ended trading at $158.65, up 36 cents, according to the Bank of Jamaica’s daily foreign exchange trading summary.
The Canadian dollar closed at $117.47, up from $117.38, while the British pound sterling ended at $208.32, down from $210.43.
The Jamaican dollar weakened against the US and Canadian dollars but made a strong gain against the pound.

What it means for property buyers and the diaspora
UK senders were the losers on the day, with the pound shedding more than $2 against the Jamaican dollar, which trims the local-currency value of funds sent for deposits, surveyor fees or renovation work. In contrast, a firmer US dollar gave North American remitters a slightly better deal, while raising the Jamaican-dollar cost of imported fixtures and building supplies for local builders.
