KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States (US) dollar on Monday, December 16, ended trading at $156.72, down four cents, according to the Bank of Jamaica’s daily foreign exchange trading summary.
The Canadian dollar closed at $110.81, down from $111.77, while the British pound sterling ended at $198.94, down from $199.54.
The Jamaican dollar firmed against all three currencies, with its biggest gain coming against the Canadian dollar.

What it means for property buyers and the diaspora
Canadian-based Jamaicans were the most affected on the day: a transfer of CAD 1,000 bought close to J$1,000 less than it would have at the previous close. For those saving steadily towards a down payment, it can pay to spread transfers over several weeks rather than converting in one lump. Local buyers pricing imported windows, doors or solar equipment in US dollars saw only a marginal saving.
