KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States (US) dollar on Monday, April 14, ended trading at $158.26, down 28 cents, according to the Bank of Jamaica’s daily foreign exchange trading summary.
The Canadian dollar ended at $114.48, up from $113.40 at the previous close, and the British pound closed at $208.28, up from $207.94.
The Jamaican dollar gained against the US dollar but weakened against both the Canadian dollar and the pound.

What it means for property buyers and the diaspora
The split in the market meant different outcomes depending on where the money comes from. Jamaicans in Canada, whose dollar rose by more than $1, and in the UK got more for each transfer home, helpful for anyone funding a land purchase or a house extension. US-based senders got slightly less. Locally, the softer US rate eases the cost of imported cement, hardware and fixtures, giving contractors a little extra margin on fixed-price jobs.
