KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States (US) dollar on Monday, October 27, ended trading at $161.00, down 38 cents, according to the Bank of Jamaica’s daily foreign exchange trading summary.
The Canadian dollar closed at $117.92, up from $115.61, while the British pound ended at $218.88, up from its previous close of $216.54.
The Jamaican dollar firmed against the US currency but weakened against both the Canadian dollar and the pound, a mixed session overall.

What it means for property buyers and the diaspora
Trading took place as the island braced for Hurricane Melissa, with many households rushing to buy plywood, batteries and other storm supplies. A slightly stronger Jamaican dollar against the US currency eased import costs at the margin. Jamaicans in Canada and the UK sending emergency funds to family received more local dollars per transfer, as both the Canadian dollar and the pound rose sharply on the day.
