About Old Harbour
Old Harbour is one of St Catherine’s principal towns, located on the south coast about 35km west of Kingston along the coastal highway. The town and its adjacent Old Harbour Bay have a long history — this was one of the earliest European settlements on the island, dating back to the 17th century when the sheltered bay made it an important anchorage. Today Old Harbour is a busy working community with a large fishing industry centred on Old Harbour Bay, where fishing canoes are hauled up on the beach and fresh fish is sold daily at the waterfront. The town is also a key stop on the Highway 2000 corridor connecting Kingston to Mandeville and the west, making it increasingly attractive for residential development as commuters seek more affordable housing within driving distance of Kingston.
