About Port Maria

Port Maria is the charming capital of St Mary parish — a quiet harbour town that punches far above its size in cultural significance. The surrounding area was the beloved home of Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond, who built his GoldenEye estate just 4km east of town in Oracabessa. Fleming wrote all 14 of his Bond novels here and famously said he would never leave Jamaica. The legacy endures: GoldenEye is now a boutique luxury resort. Port Maria itself retains a pleasantly old-fashioned character — with a working fishing harbour, a Victorian-era courthouse, and roadside vendors selling fresh sugarcane juice and roast corn. The town sits at the heart of Jamaica’s quieter, more authentic north coast.
