Christiana is a small town nestled in the mountains of Manchester Parish, Jamaica, approximately 825 meters above sea level. Located about 22 kilometers north of Mandeville, the capital of Manchester, Christiana is characterized by its cool climate and lush, hilly landscape. The town is the second largest in Manchester and is renowned for its agricultural productivity, particularly in the cultivation of bananas and Irish potatoes.

Historically, Christiana was originally known as “Struan Castle” and was a favored retreat for British soldiers seeking respite from the heat of the lowlands, earning it the nickname “Barracks.” The town’s appeal extended to British citizens during the early days of colonial rule, who were drawn to its temperate climate and occasional foggy weather.

In terms of notable individuals, Christiana is the birthplace of several prominent figures. Actor Roger Cross hails from this settlement, as does musician Byron Lee, who founded the Dragonaires, a band instrumental in popularizing Jamaican music genres such as ska and calypso. Additionally, contemporary reggae artist Lila Iké is among the notable people originating from Christiana.
