A church is a community of Christians who gather for worship, prayer, teaching, fellowship and service. The word can also refer to the building where Christians meet, but in the New Testament the deeper meaning is the people themselves, understood as the body of Christ.
Churches vary widely in tradition, worship style and organisation, but most centre on scripture, prayer, preaching, baptism, Communion and caring for others. In Jamaica, churches have long played an important role not only in worship but also in education, community support, music, family life and social outreach.
