Glengoffe is a rural community in the northeastern region of Saint Catherine Parish, Jamaica, spanning roughly twenty square miles of hilly terrain. It consists of fourteen small communities with a combined population of about 5,000 residents. Many inhabitants engage in part-time farming, while approximately 300 full-time farmers rely solely on agriculture for their livelihoods. However, the area faces challenges due to climate change and unsustainable land management, leading to issues such as landslides, flooding, and drought. To combat these risks, community-based adaptation projects have been introduced, helping to mitigate environmental damage and protect agricultural production.

Education in Glengoffe is supported by institutions such as St. Mary’s College, located in Above Rocks, Saint Catherine. Founded in 1955, the school serves various nearby communities, including Glengoffe, and offers a range of subjects and extracurricular activities to its student body of over 900. In recent years, initiatives like the Straw Artisan Project by the Sandals Foundation have sought to revive traditional crafts, creating employment opportunities for residents while preserving the community’s cultural heritage. These efforts help sustain the local economy and empower community members to maintain traditional skills.
