KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States (US) dollar on Monday, September 22, ended trading at $160.79, up 3 cents, according to the Bank of Jamaica’s daily foreign exchange trading summary.
The Canadian dollar closed at $116.71, down from $117.92, while the British pound ended at $215.38, down from its previous close of $218.34.
The Jamaican dollar was virtually flat against the US currency but gained against both the Canadian dollar and the pound.

What it means for property buyers and the diaspora
For most US-based buyers the day brought no real change: a three-cent move barely registers on a mortgage payment or a monthly remittance. The bigger story was in sterling, where a drop of nearly three Jamaican dollars meant UK senders funding a construction project or paying an attorney’s fees on a purchase received less for every pound. Canadian senders faced a smaller but similar squeeze.
