Spanish Town, St Catherine, 17 June 2026
Ground has been broken on Wick Hall Estate, a 221-unit private housing development on 36 acres at Featherbed Lane in Spanish Town, in what Prime Minister Andrew Holness described as a model for how the private sector can help close Jamaica’s housing gap outside the capital.
The project is being delivered by ALTRUHOMES, part of Norman Horne’s ARC Group, with construction financing from National Commercial Bank. Dr Holness led the groundbreaking on Friday, 12 June.

Three price points
Wick Hall will offer three house types. The Garden, a two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit, starts at $28.5 million. The Classic adds a third bedroom and starts at $33.5 million, while the Terrace, with three bedrooms and three bathrooms, starts at $36.5 million.
Those prices are pitched at the salaried professionals the Prime Minister singled out at the ceremony: teachers, nurses, police officers, civil servants and young professionals looking for a well-built home in a good location. For most of those buyers, the numbers will depend on pairing a National Housing Trust loan with commercial bank financing.
Private builders outside Kingston
Dr Holness tied the project to the Government’s target of 70,000 housing solutions, of which the NHT is responsible for about 42,000 and the Housing Agency of Jamaica about 15,000. The rest, he argued, has to come from private developers, and he urged them to look beyond high-rise apartments in Kingston towards Spanish Town, May Pen and St Thomas.
A new name for the road
Spanish Town Mayor Norman Scott proposed renaming Featherbed Lane as Featherbed Drive, a change he said would go before the St Catherine municipal council. The Prime Minister backed the idea, saying a “lane” carries a stigma the new community should not inherit.
Mr Horne framed the estate as an economic engine as much as a housing scheme, pointing to construction jobs, longer-term work in security and maintenance, spending at local businesses and rising property values nearby.
What it means for buyers
For St Catherine buyers priced out of Kingston, Wick Hall adds meaningful new supply in the old capital. Prospective purchasers should watch for the developer’s sales release and check their NHT eligibility early.
