ST JOHN’S, Antigua — Barbuda is expected to see more than US$400 million in resort investment in 2026, alongside government spending on roads, a port and housing, according to figures in Antigua and Barbuda’s 2026 budget reported by Antigua News on 8 December 2025.
Projects named by Prime Minister Gaston Browne include:
- MurBee Resorts, a US$300 million project with groundbreaking planned for the first half of 2026.
- Nobu, where US$70 million has been invested so far, with a further US$40 million committed for 2026.
- Barbuda Ocean Club, expected to invest more than US$100 million in 2026 and support about 800 jobs.
Public works listed for the island include US$50 million of road improvements, a US$14 million cargo and tourism port, and 50 China-financed condominium-style homes. The budget said Barbuda’s airport handled more than 200 international flights in 2025 and projected about 300 in 2026, and that the Barbuda Council’s share of sales tax revenue now exceeds $5 million a year.
What it means
Analysis: Barbuda is being repositioned as a high-end resort destination at speed. Buyers considering property there should take specialist legal advice on land tenure, which has a distinct history on the island and has been the subject of dispute.
