Universal agent

A universal agent is someone given the power to handle almost everything for another person, especially when it comes to important things like money and property. In Jamaica and around the world, if a person can’t manage their property directly—like if they’re living far away or unable to look after things themselves—they might choose a universal agent to make big decisions for them. This person can buy, sell, rent, or fix up property without needing to ask every time, acting as if they were the owner. For example, if someone owns a house in Jamaica but lives overseas, they might trust a universal agent to take care of the house and make all the important choices about it. Universal agents are chosen carefully since they have a lot of responsibility and must always act in the best interest of the person they’re helping. This setup usually involves a legal agreement to make sure the agent has the authority to act on behalf of the other person fully.
