CLARENDON, Jamaica — Work has officially begun on Longville Meadows, a 2,064-unit housing development in Clarendon that the National Housing Trust (NHT) is delivering with private developer Gore Development Limited.
Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness broke ground on the project on June 20, the Jamaica Information Service reported, describing it as a significant milestone for the NHT.

Mostly one-bedroom units
The scheme will comprise 1,372 one-bedroom units and 692 two-bedroom units. It is being built as a joint venture under the NHT’s Modified Guaranteed Purchase Programme, an arrangement in which the Trust partners with a private developer to bring homes to market.
Planned infrastructure includes paved roads with traffic signs, potable water, electricity, stormwater drainage and a central sewage treatment system. The Prime Minister said the development would also include green spaces and recreational facilities, and highlighted its location in Clarendon between Kingston and Mandeville.
A long-term bet on Clarendon
The NHT has delivered more than 9,000 housing solutions in Clarendon since 1977, and a further 9,000 homes are projected for the parish over the next decade. Dr. Holness said each new home moves a family out of uncertainty and into stability, framing the project as community-building rather than just house construction.
What it means for buyers and investors
The heavy tilt toward one-bedroom units reflects a market in which many first-time buyers are single people or young couples who cannot afford larger homes. For NHT contributors in central Jamaica and commuters working in Kingston or Mandeville, Longville Meadows could offer an entry point to ownership, though buyers should keep in mind that large schemes are typically delivered in phases over several years. Landlords and investors in Clarendon and neighbouring parishes should also watch the project: a large block of new, affordable units can shift local rents and resale prices once it comes on stream.
