The Government has committed an additional $9.65 billion to help Jamaican families repair homes damaged by Hurricane Melissa in October 2025, as efforts continue to restore housing security across affected communities.
The funding will support outstanding payments under the Restoration of Owner or Occupant Family Shelters (ROOFS) Programme, part of the national Shelter Recovery Programme.

Thousands Still Await Assistance
The Prime Minister confirmed that more than 118,000 households had been assessed for assistance, with approximately half receiving support through expenditure of around $12 billion.
The Government aims to reach 90 per cent of assessed households by December 2026, with remaining payments scheduled for January 2027.
Housing Recovery Remains a Priority
Administrative checks and verification requirements continue to delay some payments. The Prime Minister has urged the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to accelerate assistance to qualifying households.
The additional funding represents an important step towards restoring damaged homes, although the pace of disbursement remains central to Jamaica’s wider housing recovery.
