KINGSTON, Jamaica — Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) has moved further away from paper payments, discontinuing the acceptance of cheques from Government entities and manager’s cheques valued at J$1 million and above from September 1, 2026.
TAJ is encouraging taxpayers to use electronic payment methods instead, describing the transition as a move toward faster, safer and more convenient transactions.
The change is particularly relevant for people making larger payments connected with property, business and professional transactions, where manager’s cheques have traditionally been used to move substantial sums.
Taxpayers dealing with high-value obligations should therefore confirm the appropriate electronic payment route before attending a tax office or arranging settlement. TAJ says further information is available through its website and Customer Care Centre.

The change forms part of Jamaica’s wider shift toward electronic payments and reduced reliance on cheques across the financial system.
