NEGRIL, Westmoreland, Jamaica — The National Water Commission (NWC) has announced plans to begin the Negril section of the Western Water Resilience Improvement Project in November 2026, bringing a major pipeline programme closer to one of Jamaica’s busiest tourism and residential corridors.

In an advisory issued on October 30, the utility identified the upcoming work as part of its wider effort to improve water reliability in western Jamaica. The Negril works are expected to extend from the North Negril River bridge to the Negril Roundabout, a route used by residents, businesses, delivery vehicles and visitors.
Road restrictions expected
According to the announced arrangements, crews will undertake excavation, pipe installation, backfilling and road reinstatement. Work is scheduled for Mondays through Saturdays, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., with completion targeted for September 2028.
One southbound lane is expected to close during active works. Traffic management will include flag personnel by day and traffic lights at night, alongside concrete barriers, signs and warning systems. Motorists should allow for changing traffic conditions and follow instructions at the work site.
Why the work matters for property
For households and property operators, dependable piped water is fundamental to daily living and the long-term viability of development. Hotels, guest houses, restaurants and residential schemes can face significant operating costs when they must supplement unreliable supplies with storage or private deliveries.
The Negril leg forms part of the wider Western Water Resilience Improvement Project, which includes major transmission improvements serving north-western parishes. The investment aims to strengthen supply resilience, although individual properties should not assume that service improvements will arrive immediately or uniformly.
The announcement establishes the intended November start, not proof that excavation has already begun. Residents and road users should monitor subsequent NWC notices for confirmed mobilisation dates and any changes to the traffic plan.
