KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States (US) dollar on Tuesday, March 11, ended trading at $157.66, up 6 cents, according to the Bank of Jamaica’s daily foreign exchange trading summary.
The Canadian dollar closed at $108.86, down from $109.51 at the previous close, while the British pound ended at $204.20, up from $200.59.
The Jamaican dollar was little changed against the US dollar, firmed against the Canadian dollar and weakened sharply against sterling.

What it means for property buyers and the diaspora
It was a good day to be sending pounds home. A rise of more than $3.60 in sterling means British-based Jamaicans funding a land purchase, a returning-resident home or repairs on a family property got considerably more for each transfer. Canadian senders lost a little ground. With the US rate almost unchanged, the cost of imported building materials and the local value of US dollar rents held broadly steady.
