KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States (US) dollar on Monday, December 22, ended trading at $160.11, down 19 cents, according to the Bank of Jamaica’s daily foreign exchange trading summary.
The Canadian dollar closed at $116.76, up from $116.33, while the British pound ended at $214.73, down from its previous close of $216.13.
The Jamaican dollar therefore firmed against the US dollar and the pound but gave up some ground to the Canadian dollar, a mixed session heading into the Christmas holidays.

What it means for property buyers and the diaspora
The holiday season is peak time for remittances, and many families overseas send extra money home in December to cover repairs, deposits or year-end bills. A slightly firmer Jamaican dollar against the US currency means those transfers stretch a little less far, while households and contractors buying imported roofing, lumber and fixtures for post-Melissa rebuilding see marginally lower costs when suppliers reprice in Jamaican dollars.
